Amarillo, Texas - A Jet Blue pilot who left the cockpit mid-flight and screamed at passengers on a flight from Las Vegas to New York was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
The pilot, Clayton Osbon, caused a panic when he screamed about terrorists and religion. His behavior resulted in an emergency landing when this happened in March.
He was charged with interference with a flight crew, facing a possible 20 years in prison.
A psychological examination that concluded, 'at the time of the commission of the offense, the defendant appeared to suffer from a severe mental disease or defect that impaired his ability to appreciate nature, quality, or wrongfulness of his behavior.'
Osbon will go to a federal mental health facility until the judge decides whether he will be released or committed to a mental facility.
