Brighton, N.Y.—The Bills won’t be visiting the Rochester area for seven months, but there’s plenty of optimism surrounding the new coach who will lead them here.
Doug Marrone was introduced by the team Monday. Longtime season ticket holder I.C. Shah said he approves the move.
“I’m excited, it’s about time we got a younger coach,” said Shah of Pittsford.
Marrone worked as an assistant coach for the New Orleans Saints before taking the head coaching job for Syracuse University’s football program four years ago.
“They went with a guy who has some NFL experience,” said Sean Mullen, a season ticket holder of four years. “It’s an unknown right now.”
Season ticket holders will have the first chance to show their feelings for the move in March, when they expect to receive letters from the team asking them to renew their tickets.
Mullen, who will be married by the time the regular season starts, said he is reevaluating his investment in the Bills.
“Do I want to spend more time with her Sunday afternoons rather than standing in the cold and perhaps watch them lose again?” questioned Mullen.
As for Shah, he’ll be back next year, regardless of other off-season moves.
“I’ll stay with my season tickets, I may even get my suites back,” said Shah.
Local Bills fans without season tickets will get their first look at Marrone and the 2013-2014 team in August as they open training camp at St. John Fisher College.
