Brighton, N.Y.—Bright sunny and warm weather may seem like ideal conditions, unless you’re Jessica Steffan.

“Stuffy nose, congestion, runny nose, I’ve been feeling it for the past month,” said the Webster resident.

Steffan will get a refill of her allergy medication unusually early this year.

“It’s hay fever starting up, it’s nasal congestion, running nose and some sneezing,” said Peter Deane, M.D. with Allergy Asthma Immunology of Rochester.

Deane feels tree pollen is largely to blame, but without a recent pollen count—it’s difficult to determine what is causing all the symptoms. Even if we get a day or two of snow, Deane says it may not mean allergy sufferers are in the clear.

“A snowy day will clear the pollen out of the air unless we have a reasonably sustained hard frost the next day, the pollen will come back out,” explained Deane.
