Rochester, N.Y. - A 20-year-old Burmese rock python that had been at the Seneca Park Zoo since February 1994 has died.
Medical tests show that the python, named Daisy, died of age-related kidney failure. Burmese rock pythons typically live around 20 years.
"We all have fond memories of bringing Daisy out of her enclosure for meet and greets with children visiting the Zoo," said Dr. Jeff Wyatt, Director of Animal Health & Conservation. "She will be missed."
"While she will be deeply missed by her keepers and the general public, I find comfort in knowing that Daisy experienced a wonderful life while cared for at the Seneca Park Zoo," said Larry Sorel, County Zoo Director.
Seneca Park Zoo currently houses another Burmese rock python named Abby, and may decide to search for a second python to replace Daisy.
