Canandaigua, N.Y.—If you have a pair of skis or a snowboard laying around, December has not been too kind, until now.

“My daughter’s on the Webster ski team,” said Lisa Rink. “We’ve been waiting for this, this is great.”

Bristol Mountain snow machines have been running for more than a month, but the resort was not open until Christmas Eve. Large crowds began forming immediately after Wednesday's storm.

“This puts everyone in the mood,” said Drew Broderick, Bristol Mountain Marketing Director.

By late afternoon Thursday, hundreds of skiers and snowboarders could be seen lining up for the ski lift.

“I’m hoping for a little bit more. I think we’ll have a good season this year,” said David Edwards, a skier.

Last season was warm and shorter than usual.

Swain Resort had 8 of its 28 trails open Thursday.
