Rochester, N.Y. – In the 25th District, U.S. Representative Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, is leading Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, R-Webster, by just five points - 49-44%, according to a new Monroe County Voice of the Voter sponsored poll.

Several weeks earlier in a separate Siena poll, that lead was ten.

With just three weeks until Election Day, the candidates are fighting for the undecided voters, a small but vital segment of the voting population.

Voters like Ray McCormick. “It's kind of, pick your own poison in my eyes,” said McCormick. “I haven't decided which one yet.”

Brooks says the new poll shows her campaign's message is reaching voters.

“We're talking about the things that they [voters] are interested in,” said Brooks. “We're talking about jobs; we're talking about the economy and the future of this country.”

Slaughter's campaign says despite millions of dollars spent on negative ads by special interest groups against them, they're still confident. Slaughter's campaign referred us to a press conference from last week.

“I am a fighter and I will not back down,” said Slaughter.  “I fight for this community, and the people I serve.”

As Election Day gets closer, the race is getting nastier. Both sides are complaining that the other side's ads are unfair. Sunday, Louise Slaughter filed a complaint with the Fair Elections Committee about one of several new ads that began airing this weekend.
