Rochester, N.Y.—Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-Fairport) joined a chorus of local Democrats who’ve blasted County Executive Maggie Brooks over a recent
audit by the State Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli. The audit released Friday said Monroe County overspent by $39 million for a public safety contract with a local development corporation. It also said the county favored one company that was affiliated with a former employee.
“I want government to work. I want it to be fair for the people and I deplore any time when it isn’t,” said Slaughter.
Slaughter and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks are in the midst of a race for the 25th congressional seat.
“The only scandal in this race is Louise Slaughter being found guilty of lying to voters by three independent fact checks, including the Fair Election Practices Committee,” said Brooks campaign spokesman Noah Lebowitz.
Democrats want the State Attorney General’s Office to investigate the findings of the comptroller’s audit.
A spokesman for the comptroller’s office said the audit has been received and is being reviewed. He declined to give a timetable for the completion of the review or an investigation.
