Brighton, N.Y. – Saturday marked the third annual Small Business Saturday, created by American Express in 2010.

At Cooks’ World on Monroe Avenue, employees eagerly accommodated holiday shoppers. Chris Wiedemer, the store’s owner, said he loves the idea of using a day to direct people to small, independently owned stores.

“Business has been very strong, not only today but leading up to today,” Wiedemer said. “We’re off to a fast start, and I think people are recognizing that they want to shop as much as they can locally.”
