Honeoye Falls, N.Y. – Monroe County Legislator Karla Boyce held a panel discussion in Honeoye Falls Tuesday on the Social Host Law.

The Social Host Law, which was adopted by the Monroe County Legislature in 2008, targets parents who allow underage drinking in their house.

Ontario County regularly leans on the law to charge parents who know their kids and their friends are drinking alcohol.

Though Monroe County often turns to tougher penal law, Boyce wanted the county law to serve as a reminder.

“We need to be comfortable calling other parents and asking them about drinking so I can make a decision if I want my child in your home,” Boyce said.

Specifically, the Social Host Law says a person who permits someone under 21 to drink in their home will face a fine of $250.

About a dozen people turned out for the meeting.
