Jamestown, N.Y. (AP) - Some soldiers from Fort Drum in upstate New York want to thank supporters for care packages that arrived when they were deployed in Afghanistan.
About 40 soldiers plan to be in Chautauqua County Thursday to repay the kindness by teaching Dunkirk school children about fire and traffic safety.
They also plan to thank members of the Blue Star Mothers group that sent care packages on holidays, as well as a local business, A.&M. Ag and Turf, which sent gifts to a local soldier at Christmas to pass out to other soldiers.
The local soldier, 2nd Lt. Vincent Fye of Panama, arranged Thursday's thank-you trip.
The soldiers are from Fort Drum’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team from the 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division.
