Most of the kids you're about to see are autistic.They may not be able to play sports like baseball, football, or soccer with your son or your daughter.That's where Larry Evarts, and his program "Special needs Sports" come in.
"It all got started in 2006 really, when the parents wanted their kids involved in other sports…These kids need a place to belong to different events, so we put a program together, we do soccer, we do golf, we bowl, and the kids really love it."
The goal on this night at Terrace Gardens was simple.It wasn't to bowl a 300.It was to have a good time with friends, with people just like them."For Anthony it was great because, one, it was a social vehicle for him. He's able to go out with his peers and socialize. The second thing is he probably gets to do sports he otherwise wouldn't be able to do, if that venue wasn't there."
"At times at home, Ryan is…….by himself. Getting here he gets out with kids who have needs like him….He's at ease, he's not tense, he doesn't have any anxiety…he just lets loose here."
And that's the goal.To let loose.To grow up and become confident young men and women.To discover they're not alone.
"if I can do that through this organization, then it's wroth it. Well time spent. They leave here feeling great about themselves. They say, "I can do it". Although I do have a disability, I can still do it.
