Spencerport, N.Y. – An old train bridge will be demolished soon.
The old CSX train bridge on Union St. in Spencerport will be torn down in the next couple of months, according to Spencerport Mayor Joyce LoBene.
The New York State Department of Transportation has to approve a permit to shut down Union St. before the demolition can begin, which should be in the spring.
The cement side supports will remain up. LoBene says she hopes to see a mural contest where kids enter designs for the supports.
The Bridge has not had train traffic since 1982. In the 1990’s the tracks were removed.
