Greece, N.Y. – At 8 years old, Joe Miller was already down on his luck.
His parents had fallen away as alcoholism set in - leaving Joe and his older brother essentially orphans.
1942. The year the newly formed St. Joseph’s Villa in Greece took Joe and his brother in.
Joe says the sisters there provided the love, care and direction his parents could not.
“People say, ‘Don’t you resent the fact of what your parents did to you?’ And I say, ‘No, they kind of gave me a better break than most kids because it certainly motivated me to move and do something with my life,’” Joe said.
Joe went on to graduate from Aquinas, serve in the Army, study at the University of Rochester and make a career at Kodak.
He has 29 grandchildren.
Joe, now 78, and his wife of 37 years plan to attend an event at the Villa on Sunday.
The organization will celebrate 7 decades of helping young people overcome life’s hurdles.
The party will start at 1 p.m. and run until 4 p.m. – and everyone is invited.
Live music and food will be provided.
