Henrietta, N.Y.—Phyllis Jackson of Henrietta was one of the last people to get a gallon jug of water at Wegmans on Calkins Road. Instead of one jug, she bought a dozen. They are not for her, but her daughters who live in Caledonia.
“They have three little children, I want to make sure they have water to drink,” said Jackson.
Adam Burgos insisted that he was not worried about the storm, just wanted to be prepared with non-perishable food items.
“I think if you are smart about it, you will be fine,” Burgos said.
Wegmans said it has been trying to meet the high demand of certain goods in recent days.
The company released the following statement:
“Extra deliveries of the most in-demand items (like water, batteries, peanut butter, and cereal) were received at stores and Wegmans is working with suppliers to replenish the inventories. As the storm passes, we will work on understanding the aftermath and evaluating our inventories.”
Dozens of gallon water jugs could be found early Monday afternoon at the Tops grocery store on Mt. Read Boulevard, but batteries and bread are among the staple items that have dwindled.
“We’ve been on the phone with our suppliers on the hour trying to expedite deliveries and keep us in stock,” said Mike Ritche, store manager at the Mt. Read Tops.
Customers have been on the lookout for generators for several days.
“It’s been very busy since Friday morning and we’ve been here…all weekend long,” said Deborah Steeves, Sales Manager at Tele-Lite in Rochester.
Customers have called or come from out-of-state just to get their hands on generators.
Lowe’s in Henrietta, West Ridge Road and all Rochester area Home Depot locations tell 13 WHAM News they have sold out of generators.
A manager at Gander Mountain in Henrietta called 13 WHAM News just before 5 p.m. and said a shipment of generators had just arrived.
