Rochester, N.Y. - A string of crimes in some of Rochester's most popular downtown neighborhoods is raising concern for police.
In a notice to neighborhood leaders, Rochester police warned residents to be alert in areas around East Avenue, Monroe Avenue and the South Wedge.
Ashley Craft lives near the East End and says she's always felt safe walking back from the bars.
“I never feel unsafe,” Craft said. “I'm familiar with the area. “ But after the police warning, she plans to make it a point always walk with others, especially at late at night.
Police say there have been eight street robberies in these areas this month, some involving weapons--all between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
One resident suggested that the robbers probably see people walking down the side streets as easy targets because they’ve been in nearby bars drinking.
Police also say that there have been nine Honda car thefts in the same areas this month.
