Rochester, N.Y. - For the past several weeks, Strong Hospital has had a limited supply of sedatives -- including Valium and Ativan.
Doctors there are also anticipating a shortage of drugs used to treat nausea.
Strong calls this “the new normal” and has implemented a strategy to deal with the shortages.
Strong’s Pharmacy Director Curtis Haas said, [We need to] "Make sure we use the drug where it makes the most sense, and in areas like the ICU, or we put more emphasis on those alternatives."
Doctors 13WHAM News spoke with think the shortage is because many generic drugs are not profitable for the drug manufacturers.
