New Orleans, Louisiana -  The utility serving the Superdome in New Orleans is taking the blame for the Super Bowl blackout.

Entergy New Orleans says the cause was a faulty device that it had installed in its switching gear to prevent a failure of electric cables leading to the stadium.

Company officials say the device had performed without a problem during earlier events. The power failure knocked out the lights in about half the stadium for more than a half hour.
