Penfield/Webster, N.Y. - The Penfield Town Board is considering plans for a new Walmart Supercenter in Baytowne Plaza.
A first public hearing was held Wednesday night on rezoning necessary for the project to go forward.
The plan calls for tearing down the current Walmart and Tops and replacing both with a super Walmart.
Neighbors have expressed concerns about traffic, noise and light. “This plot of land is surrounded on three sides by houses,” Al Cirecelli said.
Developer John DeMarco’s take was a little different: “We've mitigated all the issues with this plan, so it turns out to be a win-win for everyone.”
DeMarco says the super Walmart would be 20,000 square feet smaller than the Walmart and Tops, combined, as they are now.
The project has been on the table for 3 years.
It’s waiting for approval from the town board on rezoning.
