Rochester, N.Y. – There’s more fallout from the city’s parking bureau scandal. A suspended manager of the department has filed a federal lawsuit against the city.
Jacquelyn Whitfield claims she was discriminated against because she’s an African American woman. The longtime city employee claims she was targeted when former parking director Sue Olley assumed the post several years ago.
Whitfield’s lawsuit says she was suspended for “fixing” two tickets for family members, which she denies. Whitfield claims she was retaliated against for blowing the whistle on improper practices in the parking department. A city audit detailing problems with collections and other issues led to Olley’s dismissal several months ago.
"This case is both discrimination and corruption," said Whitfield's attorney, Christina Agola.
Whitfield had a disciplinary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, but Agola said it was adjourned and another date has not been set.
The city have not responded to requests for comment.
