Rochester, N.Y. - Rather than getting gifts for their birthdays, three teens from Fairport asked their friends to give back to the community instead.

Lindsay Kenrick, Rachel Orth and Kendall Disanto threw a combined party for their 'Sweet 16,' but urged guests not to buy them gifts.

Instead, the asked for donations for the Pluta Cancer Center.

It's a cause close to their hearts. Kenrick lost her mother to cancer a year and a half ago.

She was a pluta patient and was always grateful for the care she received there.

"It makes me feel good inside, knowing I can help other kids," Kenrick said. "I've been through it and I'd love to help them."

The girls raised more than $3,600 for the center.

"We didn't think we'd raise that much," Disanto said.

This wasn't the first time the trio gave back on their birthdays. A few years ago, they turned their 13th birthday into a fundraiser for a charity in Haiti.
