Webster, N.Y. -- Webster Schroeder High School's cheerleading team had to sit out a major cheerleading competition because of the swine flu virus.
Some are still going to games, but they say they're keeping it simple.
A handful of the team members have confirmed cases of the swine flu, and other girls are showing symptoms.
The team's coach says the full team hasn't practiced for two weeks. The girls aren't happy about it, but know that in order to get healthy and competitive again, they need to just stay away from one another.
“It started out a couple weeks ago. A couple girls got sick, then they'd get over it, then a couple more. It has ran one kid to the next to the next,” said Coach Joy Scheible. “We're all so close. we're together all the time. i really never have seen anything like this.”
And it's not just the team that's affected. Students say several of their classmates have been out with suspected cases of the swine flu. The school has put hand sanitizer in all the classrooms to help keep the virus from spreading, and the Webster School District has plenty of information about both the seasonal and swine flu on its website.
