Irondequoit, NY - Police say 46 year-old Jennifer Kennard met the student in 2009, when he was just 12.

They say she was "infatuated" with the male student and began "grooming" him to allegedly take advantage of him.

Police say Kennard bought him gifts and took him into her own home.

He slept at her family's home in Irondequoit and was considered "part of the family."

Police began investigating after other teachers' aides at East Irondequoit Middle School came forward with concerns.

Sergeant Mark Bean said, "Some of the employees were concerned about her emotional connection to him."

Police began investigating Thursday and arrested Kennard Friday.

She faces charges of Second Degree Rape and Criminal Sex Act.

Police say they are investigating to determine if there could be other victims or if Kennard took the teen to other locations, which could result in additional charges.

According to police, none of the alleged sexual encounters happened at school, but did happen at Kennard's home in Irondequoit.

Kennard's husband answered the door at the home Monday and told 13WHAM News his attorneys advised him not to speak about the case.

He said he supported his wife.

Kennard posted 10-thousand dollars cash bail and is now free.

Police said a grand jury will hear the case.
