Voorheesville, N.Y. (AP) — A puppy is recovering after being rescued from a fall on a 75-foot cliff in a rocky state park near Albany.

Authorities say that the 6-month-old Shiba Inu pup had a broken leg after tumbling down a slope and ending up in a 3-foot-deep crevice at Thacher State Park.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said rescuers had to rappel down the shale formation to find the pup.

He said the dog named "Shiba" was being walked off leash when it ran off the cliff edge and tumbled or ran down the slope on Sunday.

The newspaper reports Shiba Inus were bred to hunt in Japan's mountains.
