Rochester, N.Y. - Superintendent Bolgen Vargas presented his annual address Tuesday night to the school board and community.
Vargas is calling for students to spend more time in school. He cited the high number of students who need extra help. The district would institute a longer day and a longer school year for children who need it.
"This would be a pilot project,” Vargas said. “If successful, we would replicate it. I applaud the teacher's union for working with me."
Vargas says some foundations are willing to help pay for the project.
