Rochester, N.Y. (AP) - A 3-year-old girl remains hospitalized after she was severely bitten in the face by a relative's pit bull.

Justin Forrester and Malissa Moore said they were at Moore's sister's house on Saturday afternoon when the sister's pit bull attacked their daughter, Jayden Forrester.

The couple says the dog latched onto the girl's face and didn't let go until her father pried the pit bull's jaws apart.

The girl is reported in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital, where doctors spent seven hours stitching her wounds. She also suffered a broken jaw and lost several teeth.

The dog was taken away by animal control. The family says Jayden had been around the dog many times before the attack.
