Under public pressure, the New York State Thruway Authority postponed its board meeting Friday afternoon - just two hours before it was set to hike truck tolls.
Earlier this year, the agency proposed what it termed a "modest" 45 percent increase on truck tolls.
The Unshackle Upstate business group and a Republican Assemblyman - James Tedisco accused the authority of trying to sneak in the vote while the public and the media was focused on Superstorm Sandy recovery and Election coverage.
While Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said the toll increase is needed to keep the agency solvent, business interests, as well as state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, have insisted companies will have to pass along the $90 million in higher tolls to consumers through higher costs on everything from food to furniture to clothing that is transported on the Thruway.
