Chili, N.Y. - Demand for drivers in the trucking industry has students being offered positions before they even begin class.

Those in the industry say the demand for drivers is only going to continue to grow.

With baby boomer drivers retiring and the use of freight growing, the demand for drivers is expected to increase dramatically.

Over the next five to six years its estimated that 200,000 drivers will be needed each year industry-wide.

At Professional Driver Institute in Chili, President Paul Doyle says a demand for drivers isn't new.

“We could triple the number of students we graduate each month,” said Doyle, “and we could put them all to work.”

On average the school graduates 30 to 40 students each month.

Students like Jenelle Mocniak who has four job offers on the table.

“I needed to get out into something, I was holding onto 2 part time jobs,” said Mocniak, who’s training to be a truck driver at Professional Driver Institute in Chili.  “I wasn't making a whole lot of money.”

Trucking can be a lucrative industry, beginning drivers can make over $30,000 and experienced drivers can make over $90,000 each year.  Starting tuition at Professional Driver Institute is $5,595.
