In Rochester, N.Y. - The local unemployment rate has been hanging in there just a bit lower than the national average, but many people are having trouble finding a job.

13 WHAM News put out two messages Friday, one on twitter, and the other on facebook. Several dozen people responded almost instantly, telling that while there are some jobs to be found, many are part-time -- and almost nothing will pay what they were making in their old jobs.

Although the national rate is now at 10.2 percent, locally, according to the September numbers, the current unemployment rate is 8.0 percent. The labor department won't have the Rochester-area numbers for October completed for another two weeks.

We met with Mark Tichenor, who says finding a job requires a new approach.

"Clipping job applications out of the newspaper probably isn't going to be the way it happens in this town anymore,” Tichenor said. “It's more about being who you are, being up front about who you are, letting people know what you can do, doing things and putting it out there on the web, and hoping for the right networking opportunity."
