Rochester, N.Y. -- The family of a University of Rochester student slain at a fraternity party is seeking $12 million in damages.

The parents of Jeffrey Bordeaux, Jr. filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the school, the Delta Epsilon fraternity and Daren Venable, the man who killed Bordeaux.

Bordeaux was stabbed to death during a fight with Venable in January 2011. Venable was found not guilty of second-degree murder charges on the grounds of self-defense.

The lawsuit accuses the school and fraternity of negligence.

It also alleges that underage drinking at the party was a contributing factor in the fatal stabbing.

Bordeaux's parents are seeking $6 million dollars each and $12 million in damages for Bordeaux's estate.

They want a civil trial for Venable.
