At the University of Rochester, only the Medical Center is smoke free with designated smoking areas. The school is now thinking about extending this rule to the whole campus.
“We're getting closer to the time when it will be the right decision for the university to make,” said Dr. Ralph Manchester, Health Service Director.
Currently, smoking is permitted as long as a smoker is 30 feet from a building’s entrance. But Dr. Manchester explained that further smoking restrictions won't come soon.
“We're really not even at a stage to lay out a time table now,” Dr. Manchester said. “There's quite a bit more data collection and deliberation that's going to occur.”
A forum for University employees will be held this Friday on this issue.
