Penfield, N.Y.— Friday was move-in day for several Rochester area veterans who now call an Embury Rd. building their home.
The facility is owned and operated by CDS Monarch, a non-profit agency. CDS helps teach coping skills to veterans with traumatic stress disorders.
Neighbors in the Embury Rd. area voiced concern over the notion of residents like these in their back yard. Some feared what a traumatized veteran might do.
Eventually, CDS got the town approvals needed to open this facility.
CDS says the Rochester community, businesses and supporters provided the money to purchase the house and fix it up.
In the months to come, CDS hopes to have 14 veterans at the home. In addition to veterans, the building is staffed by CDS at all times.
A grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday.
