Rochester, N.Y. - Fans from all over came to watch their national team, and Rochester’s own Abby Wambach.
“It's just a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Nicole Dematteo, who drove six hours Friday to watch the game.
Parents also took the opportunity to bring their kids to a game they knew would be memorable.
“This is like taking the girls to Disney World, they were so excited,” said Steve Fish.
And hometown hero Abby Wambach didn't disappoint the sellout crowd.
“Oh it was fantastic,” said John Capezzuto, after watching Wambach score her second goal of the game. “We knew it was coming. That head gets it every time.”
And as the score rose, the crowd continued to cheer - giving Wambach a standing ovation as she left the pitch.
