Irondequoit, N.Y. –The Heritage Tower at St. Ann's in Irondequoit came crashing down at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28.

Hundreds of people came out to watch the implosion from a safe distance.

Christen Bateman, a spectator at the implosion said “I've never seen anything like it. It's kind of exciting.”

Charlie Rudat brought his kids from Canandaigua to watch the implosion.  Rudat said “I just wanted to show my kids the excitement of the building implosion.”

Mark Cholach, Monroe County Fire Bureau, says everything went as planned and the implosion was a success.

There were more than a dozen agencies in the area just in case there were any emergencies.

Around 60 people who lived near the tower were evacuated prior to the implosion. They have since been allowed to go back home.

St. Ann’s had towered over Portland Ave. and Route 104 since 1973.
