Lyons, N.Y. – Wayne County Republican Committee Chairman, 61-year-old Daniel Olson, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Friday, for driving while intoxicated in the Town of Lyons.
“We'd hope that anyone in the public eye or who's a public official would set an example for the rest of the community,” said Lyons Police Chief Richard Bogan.
Lyons police witnessed Olson driving without headlights and running a stop sign on Montezuma Street. When police pulled him over they determined Olson had been drinking alcohol; he refused a breathalyzer. Olson was arrested for a felony DWI - based on a prior DWI conviction in 2010.
“DWI is certainly very dangerous,” said Bogan, “and being involved in an accident puts everybody at risk. Mr. Olson's previous arrest he was involved in an accident, he was injured and there was some damage to the water authority property.”
According to Assemblyman Robert Oaks, the Wayne County Republican Party will be holding an executive committee meeting in the near future, Olson plans on to resign at that meeting. Olson has held the Wayne County Republican Committee Chairman position for over 20 years.
Olson was arraigned by Arcadia Town Judge and released on his own recognizance. He's scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court on Wednesday.
