Firefighters Injured in Christmas Eve Ambush Discharged From Hospital

Rochester, N.Y. – Nearly two weeks after they were shot while responding to a fire, two West Webster firefighters have returned home from the hospital.

The University of Rochester Medical Center confirmed that firefighters Ted Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter were quietly discharged from the hospital early Saturday.

Scardino and Hofstetter were shot on Christmas Eve by William Spengler when they responded to the report of a fire at his home. Two other West Webster firefighters, Lt. Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka, were killed in the ambush.
