Canandaigua, N.Y. --- Melissa Jones, 30, is due back in Ontario County Court Wednesday afternoon where many expect her lawyer to ask for a later trial date.

Jones faces 16 criminal charges ranging from grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument, scheme to defraud, and falsifying business records.

She was arrested in February 2012 and later indicted in May after authorities say that she collected tens of thousands of dollars in charitable donations from folks who believed she was diagnosed with cancer.

Authorities further allege that they have yet to find any proof Jones ever did have cancer and they claim she may have forged documents to support her story.

Jones and her attorney, Kevin McKain, deny these allegations and in a statement released in October they reiterated that Jones was given a cancer diagnosis and that she even underwent a couple rounds of treatment.

Jones’ trial is schedule to begin on Monday January 7, 2013 but McKain is expected to ask the court for a later date citing his own health concerns.
