Wyant Trial: Defendant Said Victim "Thought He Was A God"
Rochester / Brighton, N.Y. --- Testimony continued Tuesday morning in the murder trial of Max Wyant who is accused of fatally shooting his former roomate Christopher "C.J." Schoen.
The shooting occurred at 37 Hartfield Drive - a home the two shared at one time with a third man who was a witness to the shooting.
On Tuesday morning Brighton Police Officer Raymond Lockhart was called to the stand and told the jury about a brief exchange he had with Wyant while processing him and transporting him to jail.
"How screwed am I?" is what Wyant asked according to Officer Lockhart. "A Murder 2nd charge is not a good charge to have," Lockhart recalled responding.
He said Wyant claimed it was self-defense and that he said something akin to, "That kid (Schoen) literally thought he was a god, I proved tonight he is not."
Multiple times during a videotaped interview with Brighton Police Investigator Mike Liberatore, Wyant described Schoen as someone who felt he was a god. "He thinks he's a god," Wyant said at one point during the videotaped interview that was played for the jury on Monday. "He literally spends hours talking about how he is destined for greatness.
"Following Officer Lockhart's testimony a man named Tyrone Reid was called to the witness stand. Reid, in common terms, is referred to as a "jailhouse snitch" and his testimony is addressing conversations he had with Wyant while both were incarcerated.
Immediately the prosecution questioned Reid, 54, about his criminal past that dates back to 1982 and includes five felony convictions in New York State and one in the State of Florida.
Reid continued his testimony by describing how Wyant told him about the shooting while each were one cell away from each other.
Reid said he told Wyant that he knew someone who could help him get off the charge for $3,000 and that Wyant would have to ask his mom for the money on her next visit to the jail.
