Rochester, N.Y. – An event that has become a Super Bowl tradition was held at one local YMCA Sunday, but it had nothing to do with football.
The Carlson Metrocenter YMCA held its thirteenth annual “Y-Tri” indoor triathlon early Sunday. More than 130 people came to the Y to swim, bike, and run for 45 minutes, covering as much distance as they could.
The event helped raised funds for the Y’s “Invest in Youth” campaign, but there were other reasons that some participants entered the triathlon.
“This is our Super Bowl,” said Stephen Macaller of the YMCA of Greater Rochester. “A lot of people have told me they do this as a workout in the morning so they don't feel guilty about going to the Super Bowl party later.”
