Rochester, N.Y. – A local Olympian competed in her sport for the first time in several years Sunday.

Iris Zimmermann participated in a fencing tournament, featuring competitors from all across Western New York, at the University of Rochester.

Zimmermann and her sister Felicia, also a former Olympian, bought the Rochester Fencing Club in 2009 and are hoping to get more people involved in the sport.

“It’s a different sport than your mainstream sports, but we’ve been in the community a really long time, we love the City of Rochester, we love the community here in Monroe County, and we’ve helped other clubs in the area,” Felicia Zimmermann said. “It’s just another avenue, another way to be healthy, be fit and find another sport that fits you.”
