Batavia, N.Y. (AP) - A South American yogurt maker is marking the grand opening of an $18 million plant in western New York, its first in the United States.
Executives of Alpina Foods are expected to attend a ceremony on Monday at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park in Batavia.
Bogota, Colombia-based Alpina Foods broke ground on the facility, midway between Buffalo and Rochester, last October.
Company officials say the plant will employ at least 50 people and enable Alpina to distribute its products to U.S. and Canadian markets. Alpina's brands include Restart Yogurt, Revive Greek yogurt and Renew oat smoothies.
The company has global sales of $800 million and sells dairy products to 20 countries.
