Shelby, N.Y. -- Adam Rissew, an attorney with the Monroe County Public Defender's Office, was terminated Friday amid allegations he was growing marijuana in his Medina home.


Police seized more than 60 marijuana plants, three pounds of dried marijuana and a loaded .9MM handgun from his home on Catherine Street.

Rissew is charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, Growing Cannabis, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawfully Dealing With a Child. The arrest was the culmination of an eight-month long investigation by the Orleans County Major Felonies Crimes Task Force.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and expect to make more arrests.

Rissew had been an Assistant Public Defender in Monroe County since 2009.
