Rochester, N.Y. – An anti-bullying rally was held in Rochester on Saturday to promote the “Tolerance, Empowerment and Other Strategies to Reduce Bullying” conference.
The rally was part of an entire day of anti-bullying events put on by Hillside Family of Agencies. The events on Saturday were held to bring awareness to National Bullying Prevention Month.
Kaitlin Monte, Miss New York 2011, was at the event on Saturday to stand with the rally and voice her stance on bullying issues.
Monte said, “It’s not just kids pushing each other on playgrounds, this is a serious issue and it’s growing every day as the internet grows and as that knowledge gap continues to exist between adults and kids, and we need to close that, and we need to come up with new ways to help them.”
The executive director of Children’s Mental Health Coalition of western New York Mary Skorupa says that the event is “geared to combat the bullying, teach children and their families what they can do about bullying, give them strategies to help them and help them to learn what their rights are if they do find themselves being bullied.”
