(CNN) - The world's most popular doll turned 54 years-old Saturday.
Created by Ruth Handler, Barbie made her first appearance on March 9, 1959.
Since then, the doll has represented more than 40 nationalities, more than 130 careers and has worked with 75 different fashion designers.
Barbie's maker, Mattel, says there's a Barbie doll sold somewhere in the world every three seconds.
