Rochester, N.Y. - Is Bausch & Lomb for sale?

The Wall Street Journal reports B&L’s parent company hired Goldman Sachs to explore a possible sale of the eye care company.

B&L is known around the world for its eye wear and eye care products.

The company employs 1700 people in Rochester and 12,000 around the world.

The Wall Street Journal reports the company would want to get at least $10 billion in a sale.

Private equity firm Warburg Pincus took Bausch & Lomb private in 2007 following some financial troubles.

The company plans to go public again.

A company spokesperson said, “Bausch + Lomb is regularly contacted by companies with strategic interest in our company, and we continue to aspire to a return to the public markets in the future.  However, our focus remains on building the best global eye health company and therefore won't comment further."

There's no word on how a possible sale could affect local Bausch and Lomb employees.
