Charlotte, N.Y. - Ontario Beach Park was a popular destination Tuesday with the humidity making it feel warmer than 90 degrees.
Beachgoers spent most of their time walking or sunbathing as algae covered most of the shoreline. A small, section mostly clear of algae was available for swimmers, many of them young children.
At nearby Durand Eastman Park, the beach was active from parking lot to the sand. City workers erected a fence around parking lots as swimmers and sunbathers enjoyed their day in the sun.
"This is our favorite because the other one has a lot of seaweed and a lot of people go there, so just go here," said Brittany Gray, a mother and frequent visitor at Durand.
Durand officially opens for the season June 24th. There were no parking meters Tuesday, but there will be soon. Parking will cost $3.00 for the use of two lots.
