Alabama, N.Y. - A man from Medina is facing DWI and several other charges in Orleans and Genesee counties after a crash early Sunday morning.
Police say Brandon Sponaugle, 21, was driving on Route 63 in the Town of Alabama when he crossed the center line and ran off the highway. Police say he hit a mailbox, a concrete post, a tree stump, and a bridge structure before continuing north into Orleans County in his damaged vehicle.
Authorities say Sponaugle abandoned the car on Alabama Street after it stopped working and he was found a short time later walking in the Town of Shelby.
He was charged in Orleans County with DWI and third-degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation.
Additional charges are pending blooding test results. Sponaugle is also facing traffic charges filed by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
