Rochester/Buffalo, N.Y. - Marsha Rosen was nervous as she sent her 18-year-old son off to college. But she never expected the phone call she received Friday night.
Marsha Rosen: "All he said was Mommy I was mugged...He said I need you to come, my friend was shot...I didn't hear anything after that."
Ehrich, who graduated from Greece Athena High School In June, was walking a few blocks from the Buffalo State Campus with a group of students.
They were heading to a party just after 11 p.m. He said the suspects approached the teens from behind, pointed a gun at them, and demanded money. They gave the suspects their wallets and cell phones but were still beaten. Then when the young men tried to run, the suspects opened fire.
Ehrich said, "At first they pointed at us, then when we started running, they shot at us."
One of his friends was shot, but is okay.
Marsha Rosen was upset that Buffalo State didn't warn incoming Freshmen that Grant Street, near Potomac, where this happened, was a dangerous area for students.
The college has now issued an alert warning students that if they do leave campus to walk in groups.
Buffalo Police have increased patrols in the area and are still searching for the suspects.
