Rochester, N.Y.—Rochester Police reported 95 shootings citywide from January to June. The latest was Friday afternoon in the Portland Avenue-Delamaine Drive area.

“This is scary, this is too close to home,” said Anna Mericle who lives less than ten feet from the police tape set up on Delamaine Drive.

One person died, a second was wounded in the most recent shooting according to Rochester Police.

Police are attributing a large number of the recent shootings to a group police said were from the Roycroft Drive, Carter Street area.

Rochester Police did not make a link between that group and this particular shooting.

“Just this group right now we’re talking probably 15-20 shooting incidents just with this group alone this year and that does not count incidents where they were victimized, potentially shot or otherwise,” said Deputy Chief Michael Wood.

Police are not referring to the Carter-Roycroft group as a gang.

“I hope they stop the killing, all they are doing is just damaging themselves,” said Sanmatias Perez, a Carter Street resident.
