In 50 years of broadcasting on Channel 13 there are literally tens of thousands of news stories to consider when compiling a list of the most significant and memorable stories.

Thursday on 13WHAM-TV at 9 p.m. we unveil our list of “13 Stories In 50 Years” during an hour-long news event that spans our five decades on the air.

Some of the stories you’ll see are presented through recollections of the Channel 13 Reporters and Anchors who not only covered these news events, but experienced them and fostered relationships with the people impacted.

“If Kodak was laying off workers Patrice Walsh was live at headquarters knowing that she’d return home to learn neighbors, family members, or close friends were among those affected,” Producer Sean Carroll said.  “When the Ice Storm froze our community in ’91 and knocked out power for weeks there were local firefighters helping Jane Flasch get to work in the morning and the Channel 13 News Team joined in helping many neighbors.”

The stories selected on this list of “13 Stories In 50 Years” aren’t meant to be ranked but rather listed, discussed, remembered, and debated should you wish.

Tell us what you think made the list and join that discussion on Twitter using #13WHAM.
