The news is not reporting things accurately (no surprise). And the people who have commented are sadly misinformed. We have had this superintendent. We know what a bully he is. We support you Chicago teachers. We will wear red to show our support for you. YOU are for the students. These politicians are not. They just spin the news to make it sound that way.

am i the only one who sees a pattern here? brizzard was ousted here for trying to bring budgetary balance and and teacher accountability to RCSD. he was brought into a much larger school system largely based on his reformist ideas and once again the "employees" are revolting against his much needed reforms. go ahead chicago teachers....put your students back on the streets. they're probly better off there than with you're apathetic greedy selves

Personally I feel that teaching in this day and age is hard job. Parents feel that it is everyone else's job to raise and provide for their children. Lack of support and involvement for their children as well as the teachers and the school system. When asked; teachers would respond that they chose that career because of kids and maybe making a difference in a child's life... I guess UNTIL contract negotiations. I feel teachers are paid very well, excellent benefits and pensions. Many teachers are that are tenured are sitting waiting for retirement day while receiving their pay, benefits, pensions, time off, personal days. I guess what I'm saying is that this a career they chose, I'm not in any means trying to devaluate their worth or importance; just that I feel they are compensated very well. The good and the bad.

The average pay for a Chicago teacher is $70,000 per 10-month year. That's the average which means that there are quite a few making a lot more than $70,000. They are afraid of being evaluated which of course, is a way of life in the real world. I wonder if they have put forth an evaluation policy of their own since they don't like to be tied to how well their students are doing.
